After 8 years of providing a bookkeeping desktop software program, Pro-Ledgers has decided to move into the Cloud. In order to keep up with changing times, and the increasing challenges faced by some customers, Pro-Ledgers decided it would be best to move away from a bookkeeping software system stored on the desktop, to providing a service stored in the Cloud.
Now, if you are anything like me you may not be quite sure what this means. Until faced with writing this blog I had only a vague idea, but now I have a layman’s understanding. By reading the following post you will glean a layman’s understanding too as well as learning the benefits of Pro-Ledgers being in the cloud.
WHAT IS THE CLOUD?
In today’s business world it is necessary to own some form of computer, whether that is a desktop, laptop, or tablet. Here files, folders, and more are stored locally on the hard drive of your computer. Just turn on your computer and it is all there. However, depending on how much data you need to store, or if it is necessary for you to share or alter your data often, a hard drive system makes this difficult. Cloud computing has changed this.
In essence, the Cloud is simply a different way of storing and accessing data. Rather than having all the computer hardware and software sitting on the hard drive or somewhere inside your companies network, it is on the internet. The operating system and data are hosted/provided as a service by another company and accessed over the internet in a seamless manner. Hassles are eliminated. A vendor is paid a subscription fee and the technical side is left to them. Furthermore, your data is where the internet is. All you need is internet access, your password to login, and your data will be available. Finally, it is secure according to your specifications.
